With the new Store 2.0 App Core soon to be released this month, Members will now be able to select item options such as size, color and shape.
Merchants have the flexibility to offer a variety of shipping options including next day, standard and will-call pick-up. Sales tax is automatically calculated at member checkout making accounting easier than kindergarten. As if that weren’t enough to get down and boogie, Jake Knows’ developers have integrated the entire Store App Core transaction system with Intuit Quickbooks Enterprise. Not too long ago, mobile purveyors preached the path to smartphone riches were pricey apps (some still do). Today, the smartest mobile experts know the best and proven way to monetize Your App is by offering In-App products. A 2011 study by Distimo shows “In-app purchases now account for a massive 72 percent of revenue among App Store titles.”
In-App Products Sell
It’s that simple. Over the past few years, mobile shopping has gone viral. In March 2012 alone, over 20% of the Hunger Games’ record breaking opening weekend ticket sales were captured via Fandango’s mobile app. That amounts to $31M in less than 72 hours.
Like online shopping, mobile commerce brings the convenience, ease, and speed of digital transactions to the masses. Unlike it’s online cousin – and here is where the crucial distinction is made – mobile commerce can happen anywhere, at anytime: in the car, between meetings, at a game, even in store. Former Nokia exec Horace Dediu predicts, “”Besides being powerful, [smartphones] are going to be ubiquitous. Not only in the hands of nearly every person on the planet, but also with them, or by them, all day long.” And if market trends and digital analytics are any indicator, smartphones will soon to replace the PC entirely.
Freemium Brings Big Bucks
The Freemium model of app monetization, free apps with in-app products, is by far the most lucrative. In the same 2011 study, Distimo documented paid apps with in-app purchases account for 24 percent of total App Store revenue while freemium apps rake-in a whopping 48 percent.
At this rate, there may soon come a day when mobile commerce out sells brick-and-morter and even online commerce. Now the only question left to ask is can your business afford to be left behind?
